Program Profile: Tractor Trailer Internship

How long is this program?    Our Tractor Trailer Internship program is 12 weeks in length (8 weeks of instruction, 4 weeks of internship with an approved coach)

What will I learn?    During your training at Commercial Safety College, you will learn all of the essential skills for operating a Class 1 vehicle in a safe, productive manner. Our Tractor Trailer Internship program covers a number of training areas such as: Pre-trip Inspections, Maneuvering Skills, Coupling/Uncoupling, Mechanical Classes, Airbrakes, Logbooks, Safety Skills, and of course Driving!

How many students will be in my class?    At Commercial Safety College, we are dedicated to keeping class sizes small. This ensures that students receive the proper amount of instruction time. Currently we accept a maximum of twelve (12) students per course start date. It is important to note that smaller groups are formed for instruction on maneuvering and driving skills.

What does the internship phase include?    The internship phase of our program is designed to give students a minimum of 100 hours of on the road experience with an industry professional. During the four week internship, the student goes wherever the coach would normally go. This gives the student a great opportunity to put their newly-acquired skills to work, experience border crossings, use of log books, and much more!

Is this program “Industry-Approved”?    Our 12 week Tractor Trailer Internship program is the industry approved standard for Atlantic Canada. Our program is recognized by Trucking Human Resource Sector Council Atlantic and the APTA as meeting the training demands of industry.  Completion of our training program is considered to be the equivelent of having two years of Class 1 driving experience.

What will I receive upon completion?    Upon successful completion of our training program, students will have the required documentation for a Class 1 license. In addition, students receive certification for various courses taught within our program (ie, airbrakes, transportation of dangerous goods)
