What is the TOWES test?

A: The TOWES test is Test of Workplace Essential Skills. This test is administered by the Trucking Human Resource Sector Council and evaluates numeracy, reading text and document use. Students are required to write the TOWES test prior to acceptance into the Tractor Trailer Internship Program.

Does Commercial Safety College have onsite accommodations?

A: We do not have onsite accommodations. However, we are pleased to provide students with a list of people in the local area who offer room and board. Please call or email us for this information.

What are my options for financing my training?

A: Beside paying tuition yourself, there may be funding available through Employment Nova Scotia, Student Line of Credit through Banking Institutions, and Nova Scotia Student Loans (for programs 12 weeks in length)

Will I be ready to go to work upon completion?

A: Each of our courses are designed to bring an inexperienced student to a entry-level job standard.

When do the courses start?

A: Our courses are ongoing throughout the year. Please look at our website calendar for more information on course start dates.

What qualifications do your instructors possess?

A: Each of our instructors have many years of experience in their field. In addition, our instructors must meet approval guidelines set forward by the Nova Scotia Department of Education.

Why do I have to attend a pre-screening session for Tractor Trailer?

A: At the pre-screening you write the TOWES test, the results of this test are required to gain acceptance into the Tractor Trailer program. Also, there is paperwork done that day and it gives you the chance to see our facility.

I already have my Class 1 License, but haven’t driven in years. Do you offer refresher courses?

A: At Commercial Safety College, we are pleased to offer driver assessments. This will allow for you to measure where your skill set is as a driver. Please contact Commercial Safety College for more information.
